Ingredients Used To Create Our All-Natural Grapeseed Oil Cosmetics

Vitis vinifera seed oil (grapeseed oil): For thousands of years, grapes have been harvested globally for both their medicinal and nutritional properties. Grapeseed oil has been shown to have strong anti-oxidant, restructuring and moisturizing effects on the skin.  This is what inspired us to create a product line dedicated to grape seed oil cosmetics.

Grapeseed oil has a fine texture and is almost odorless, light in feel and is easily absorbed by the skin. It has great emollient properties, making it an ideal skincare and cosmetic ingredient, without leaving any tacky or oily residue on the skin.

Grapeseed oil contains proanthocyanidins, which are very potent antioxidants that are helpful for diminishing the sun's damaging effects and lessening free radical damage. This is why all of Wine Country Organics’ grapeseed oil cosmetics are excellent lip protection for all of your outdoor activities.

The antioxidant effect of this oil is most useful when fighting the ravages of aging because stress caused by free radicals, which are neutralized by antioxidants, is one of the major factors that cause aging.

Grapeseed oil has mildly astringent qualities, which help to tighten and tone the skin, making it a good cosmetic ingredient for anti-aging products. It is a light and finely textured oil and is non-comedogenic.  It is also very useful for moisturizing and adding emollient properties to any product intended for use on delicate skin.

The oil contains palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, as well as alpha linolenic, icosanoic, icosenoic and docosanoic fatty acids. Linoleic acid is very important for the health of the skin and cell membranes.

Tocopherol or Vitamin E:   The most important and well known biological function of Vitamin E is related to its antioxidant properties. Internally, Vitamin E is the most effective antioxidant in the body. It protects cellular structures against damage from free radicals and the by-products of oxidation. It acts as a free radical scavenger to prevent cell damage. When used topically, Vitamin E may decrease some of the harmful effects of solar radiation on the skin. Topical Vitamin E moisturizes the skin from within, reduces UV induced damage, helps to protect against ozone damage and decreases erythema (redness of the skin) after sun exposure. This makes it excellent for use in sun care products, including lip balms. Sourced from non-GMO Sunflower seeds; Gluten-Free.

Ricinus communis (castor) oil: Our certified organic castor oil is a thick natural oil, extracted from the castor bean, which acts as a humectant by drawing and holding moisture from the air. This moisturizing quality makes castor oil well-suited to condition normal, damaged and delicate hair, protect against the sun, and restore dry skin. Castor oil further aids in the transfer of beneficial properties of essential oils through the skin follicles.

Beeswax: Four thousand years ago in Egypt, the honey bee was regarded as a symbol of royalty. The honey bee, Apis Mellifera, secretes beeswax in order to build up a cell in which honey is stored. The wax first secreted by the honey bee is a transparent colorless liquid, which turns into a solid substance on contact with air. Beeswax varies in color from yellow through brown, and it is believed that the local pollen carried by the bee affects the coloration. Beeswax helps your lips seal in moisture and protect from the wind and cold.

Copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax: Our certified organic Carnauba wax is obtained from the leaves of the palm tree Copernica cerifera, which is also referred to as the "Tree of Life". This slow-growing palm flourishes in northeastern Brazil, where it thrives along river banks and streams. The palm exudes a wax through its fan-shaped leaves, preventing dehydration from the harsh equatorial climate. Carnauba wax helps your lips seal in moisture and protect from the wind and cold.

The INCI

The official dictionary for cosmetic ingredients is the INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) system which was established in the early 1970’s by the Personal Care Products Council. Many countries, including the members of the European Union, require manufacturers of cosmetic ingredients to submit all new ingredients for registration in the INCI system. All Wine Country Organics products come with a full INCI ingredient listing as required by European law.

Please note that INCI listings show the full "scientific" name of a product and may be a little more difficult to comprehend. For instance, Vitis vinifera is simply the Latin name for the grapeseed oil used in all of our grapeseed oil cosmetics and Tocopherols is simply the name for Vitamin E. Do not misinterpret this to mean that Wine Country Organics uses anything other than the finest natural and certified organic ingredients.
